Argentine Superstar Lionel Messi has been named the best footballer of the year at the 2021 edition of the Ballon d’or.

Tensions were high and the highest debate in the past weeks is who is going to be crowned the king of football in a ceremony that took place hours ago in France.

At the end of the day Lionel Messi took home the most prestigious individual award in football currently.

Having won 6 of those already, yesterday’s victory was his 7th, a number no one has come closed to with his biggest rival being Cristiano Ronaldo who has 5 to his name.

The Argentine led his team to a Copa America triumph earlier in Brazil and despite not achieving any much on the European soil, his international records are good enough for him to clinch his record Ballon d’or.
