The University of Ghana has earlier today August 6, launched an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme (UGIEP) at the University’s campus in Accra.

The launching ceremony saw attendance by many high profile personalities including the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The UGIEP is a non academic programme, under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor’s Office, which seeks to foster entrepreneurship and innovation, by developing knowledge and capabilities,  necessary to create and grow products and services that will add social and economic value to society.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Bawumia noted that Creating more opportunities for the country’s growing youth population remains a priority for government and it is his expectation that the UGIEP will collaborate with some government agencies to play a role in achieving that.

Some notable agencies he mentioned are the National Youth Authority, Youth Employment Agency, Ghana Enterprises Agency, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme and others which he believes can help create sustainable job opportunities.
