Philip Margo was an American musician and author born on April 1, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York of the United States of America.
Philip Margo was widely known as one of the founding members of “The Tokens,” who popularized the song “The Lions Sleep Tonight,”.
He sadly passed away on November 13, 2021 at the age of 79 as a result of complications from a stroke.
Margo’s death was announced in a Facebook by “The Tokens.”
“With a final roar, we announce the passing of our incredible lion, Philip Margo. Phil died yesterday surrounded by his beloved family,” the band wrote.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Margo’s musical career hits the ground running After forming the world-famous group “The Tokens” with his younger brother Mitch.
Margo and the band went on to have multiple gold records, which are known and adored by fans all over the world, after releasing several tracks.
They are best known for their hit recording of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” which rose to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for three weeks back in 1961.
